Mechanical Workholding
Mechanical workholding systems for ID clamping have a modular structure and provide great flexibility in daily production. The central element of mechanical workholding systems is a vulcanized segmented clamping bushing, the "Segmented Collet". Gleason Segmented Collects are available for Gleason machines and machines of other manufacturers, for gear and non-gear applications.
Gleason Mechanical Workholding Benefits at a Glance
- High loading clearances.
- Short clamping lengths.
- High workpiece tolerances.
- High lateral rigidity due to flat-face contact with workpiece.
- Excellent radial concentricity of 5 µm or better.
- Symmetrical expansion of clamping collet.
- Very flexible due to modular design.
- Easy replacement of wear parts.
Gleason Segmented Collets
Gleason segmented collets feature excellent vibration damping due to vulcanized clamping elements made from high-tech elastomer, providing constant clamping forces for a wide range of diameters. Available with standard segmented clamping sleeves or sleeves made to customer specifications. Gleason segmented collets cover a range from 20 mm to 100 mm in fine increments of 0.025 mm, with an excellent concentricity of 0.005 mm. Collets fit Gleason and non-Gleason workholding systems.
Always the Right Solution
The choice between hydraulic and mechanical workholding depends on the specific requirements of each application, and depends on factors like workpiece type, machining task and automation level.
